Goals:

To provide the staff with the current best practices in the provision and standard of care for patients with acute stroke, which include:

 

-knowledge of early recognition and management of stroke symptoms

-performing a comprehensive neurological assessment including the Glasgow Coma Scale, NIHSS and Dysphagia screening.

-reconstitution protocol and nursing care of the patient receiving thrombolytic therapy

-emergency implementation of Acute Stroke Treatment.

 

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this presentation, the student will be able to:

 

-Recognize & respond to signs and symptoms of an acute stroke

-Differentiate and define an ischemic vs. hemorrhagic stroke

-Implement the use of the Dysphagia Screen, the Glasgow Coma Scale and the NIHSS with appropriate documentation in EPIC

-Explain what a complete, comprehensive neurological exam entails with appropriate documentation in EPIC

-Describe the steps, protocols and contraindications regarding the administration of thrombolytic therapy for acute stroke

-Define and describe nursing assessment and monitoring of patients experiencing a stroke.

 

Four (4) contact hours will be awarded for successful completion of the course.

Replacement Cards 

Please call our office at 973-989-3213.  We will verify your information; and with payment, print and mail a duplicate card.  For BLS Healthcare Provider and Heartsaver CPR/AED and/or HeartSaver First Aid, replacement card cost is $10.00.  For ACLS and PALS replacement card cost is $15.00.
