Goals:

  2. Review, understand, and pass the mandatory precourse self-assessment.This test will assess your knowledge of EKG rhythms, pharmacology, and practical application. The Precourse self assessment webite can be found on page ii of the AHA 2020 ACLS Provider Manaul. You must complete this exercise with a score of 70% or better. You can take it as many times as you want. Print your completion certificate and bring it with you to class. If you do not bring the precourse self assesessment completion certificate with you when you arrive for class, you will not be allowed to enter the class, no exceptions. 
  3. Study the pharmacology in your book to review your drugs, indications, doses and contraindications.  You must know this material before coming to class.
    Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios. At the beginning of the ACLS Course, you will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills, using a feedback manikin. You must know these skills in advance because the ACLS Course will not teach you how to do CPR or use an AED.

What This Course Does Not Cover:

The ACLS Provider Course does not teach ECG or pharmacology. If you do not learn and understand the ECG and pharmacology information in the pre-course assessment, it is unlikely that you can successfully complete the ACLS Provider Course.

What to Bring and What to Wear

Bring your ACLS Provider Manual to class. You will need it during each lesson in the course. 

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to class. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have any physical condition that might prevent you from engaging in these activities, please tell an instructor. The instructor may be able to adjust the equipment if you have back, knee, or hip problems.

Note: The course is done in a hands on format.  The AHA requires you to do vigorous, real time CPR during the course.  If you have any conditions that would limit your ability to do CPR, please notify the instructor.

AHA Basic Life Support  - BLS for Healthcare Providers

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures.

THE NEW 2020 Edition BOOK IS REQUIRED. Please either purchase a book with your class registration, or have access to one from a friend, your employer, or from school to bring with you to class.

2015 Edition
 

The BLS course covers:

  • adult, child and infant CPR
  • two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag-valve mask
  • foreign-body airway obstruction (conscious and unconscious)
  • automated external defibrillation (includes child and infant AED update)
  • special resuscitation situations
  • other cardiopulmonary emergencies
  • stroke and cardiac arrest

BLS training is intended for healthcare professionals, including:

  • physicians
  • nurses
  • paramedics
  • emergency medical technicians
  • respiratory, physical, and occupational therapists
  • physician’s assistants
  • residents or fellows
  • medical or nursing students in training
  • aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel

Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Provider Course Completion eCard.

 

New User & refresher course for RNs working in critical care units. Students will

understand theory of continuous renal replacement therapy and have hands on

training. Skills will be taught on how to manage the CVVH patient and machine.

 

The CVAD course is intended to prepare registered nurses to safely care for patients with central lines. The course includes an online self-study learning module followed by a 3-hour live class.  Participants must complete the self-study modules and come prepared with the knowledge to understand the content presented in the live portion of the course. Once you are signed up through Enrollware, the self-study modules will be assigned to your Healthstream account.

Successful completion of the course requires:

  • Completion of the on-line modules.
  • Attendance at the entire live portion of the course.

 

This 2.5 hour American Heart Association class is geared for those who do not require certification yet want to learn Adult, Child and Infant CPR and choking. AED use is demonstrated. This course is geared to the public and encourages all citizens to learn CPR so that more lives may be saved.

THIS COURSE DOES NOT OFFER A CERTIFICATION CARD

 

This class is designed for individuals who need a CPR card for either personal fulfillment or for work purposes in industries NOT involved with medicine/healthcare. It is best to ask your employer which class is required for your employment. This class is perfect for the lay person, the fitness instructor, the educator, or the childcare professional. This class is also appropriate for parents or couples ready to adopt, expectant parents, or anyone else who does not work in any kind of medical/healthcare industry.

Please note: If you work in any kind of healthcare or medical field, or are a student of, or plan to be, this is most likely NOT the appropriate class for you. You should consider taking the BLS for Healthcare Providers class. It is best to contact your employer or education institution to inquire about which class you need.

Heartsaver CPR / AED Objectives:
* CPR for the Adult, Child, and Infant
* Choking for the Adult, Child, and Infant
* Use of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) 

Students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED eCard that is valid for two years at the completion of class, once all objectives have been completed.

* It is the students responsibility to register for the correct class they need for work, school, or other obligation. It is suggested you contact your employere or educational institution for clarification before registering.  

Hemodynamics and the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump 

This class is designed to provide Critical Care nurses, working in ICU, Cath Lab, or SCTU with the understanding of Hemodynamic values and waveforms associated with management of a patient with an IABP. Participants should have a basic knowledge of hemodynamics prior to attending the class. Topics include theory and timing of counter-pulsation, factors affecting diastolic augmentation, indications for use, contraindications, and potential complications of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump. The course consists of a didactic and hands-on portion. 

  • Successful completion of the course requires:
  • Attendance at the entire course.
  • Completion of the e-learning portion of class.
  • Successful completion of a post-test with a score of 80%.
  • Active participation in the hands-on portion of the course.
  • Completion of an evaluation.

4.5 contact hours are awarded for participants who successfully complete the course (4.5ceu live class time + 1ceu e-learning.)

Participants who do not pass the post-test will have opportunity for remediation and may need to retake the course.

Purpose: The Neonatal Resuscitation Program has been designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics to teach an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained so that health professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation.

PLEASE NOTE: IT IS "REQUIRED" THAT THE STUDENT COMPLETE AND PASS THE ONLINE NRP EXAM NO MORE THAN 90 DAYS PRIOR TO ENTERING A SCHEDULED SKILLS SESSION. PLEASE CALL THE SAINT CLARE’S TRAINING CENTER FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy Course is a 2-hour course consisting of lecture and hands on demonstration of Phlebotomy. This is not a certification course and is for present staff who are required to perform Phlebotomy as part of their job description.

Successful completion of the course requires:

O Attendance at the entire course.

O Successful completion of a return demonstration of phlebotomy in the class.

O Successful completion of a post-test with an 80%.

 

PA Description- EKG & Phlebotomy

The EKG and Phlebotomy Course is a 3-hour course consisting of lecture and hands on demonstration of EKG and Phlebotomy. This is not a certification course and is for present staff who are required to perform 12 -lead EKGs and Phlebotomy as part of their job description.

 

Successful completion of the course requires:

O Attendance at the entire class.

O Successful completion of a return demonstration of phlebotomy and a 12-lead EKG in the class.

O Successful completion of a post-test with an 80%.

The Phlebotomy Course is a 2-hour course consisting of lecture and hands on demonstration of Phlebotomy. This is not a certification course and is aimed for present staff who have Phlebotomy in their job description.

Successful completion of the course requires:

  • Attendance at the entire course.
  • Completion and return of a skills checklist.
  • Successful completion of a post-test with an 80%.

Prime IV Therapy Hybrid Course

The Prime IV therapy course is a Hybrid course which includes a combination of online modules, in class modules and hands on return demonstration.  It is expected that the learner will complete the self-study modules in HealthStream and come prepared to class. The Education Department will assign the self-study modules in HealthStream once enrollment is confirmed.

This course is designed to provide designated healthcare providers (per job description) the knowledge and skill needed to safely initiate, maintain, monitor and discontinue peripheral intravenous (IV) therapy.  

Successful completion of the course requires:

  • Completion of online modules prior to class attendance.
  • Attendance at the entire class.
  • Completion of a pre-test.
  • Successful completion of a post-test with an 80%.
  • Completion of an evaluation.

6.7 contact hours will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the course.

 

Participants who do not successfully pass the post-test will be remediated and required to take another version of the exam.me IV therapy Hybrid Course

Resuscitation in Action ALS

The Resuscitation in Action - ALS Course will enhance the student learning by instruction in the various components of Advanced Life Support Skills.  The course is designed for staff new to this type of training.  The class includes a review, lectures, demonstration and participation in Scenario based learning environment. This course includes the lifesaving skills required to be both the Team Member and the Team Leader in the hospital setting. Discussion and demonstration of all the equipment is included in this course. 

 

*Due to the fact that the ARC Online ALS Course covers extensive material, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand.

 

You should prepare for class by doing the following:

 

  • Review and understand the information in your ALS Provider Manual.
  • Complete the American Red Cross ALS online course assigned to you in Healthstream.
  • This assignment is extensive so please allow yourself sufficient time to complete it prior to class. YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE CLASS UNLESS THIS ASSIGNMENT IS COMPLETED.
  • Complete your Evaluation at the end of the online portion.
  • In-person skills completion may be included as part of the class, however, is not required prior to class.

Resuscitation in Action – PALS

  • Complete your Evaluation at the end of the online portion.

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises.

 Safe Sitter® Course Content:

  • Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
  • Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.
  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
  • Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role plays.

 

Pressure Ulcer Prevention Class - (SAINT CLARE'S EMPLOYEES ONLY)

This course will cover how to assess, document, and deliver care for pressure ulcers & injuries in the acute care setting at SCNJ. Also included is the Wound VAC initiation and troubleshooting. Successful completion of the course requires live in-person attendance of the entire class.
